Dwight Brydie

SCIP Recognizes Great People in our Community

The History

Dwight Brydie was the Executive Director of Light and Life Community Outreach and a visionary who had a profound influence on his community – He inspired the lives of everyone he touched. Dwight was the co-author of the Urban Parks Act of 2001 Grant that allowed the Mission Oaks Recreation and Park District to construct the Swanston Community Center. Unfortunately, Dwight passed away in 2006 before he could see the completion of the center in 2008. Dwight partnered with Mission Oaks for more than ten years by providing community programs for youth.  This collaboration served 150 youth each week with after-school basketball leagues, tournaments, and life skills classes – All for students in our community.

The Sheriff’s Community Impact Program is proud to be a part of the Arden-Arcade community and has dedicated its efforts to carrying on Dwight’s passion for empowering our youth to succeed.

The Award for Community Service
In recognition of Dwight’s service and to honor the significance of his contributions to the Arden-Arcade community, we wanted to create a way we could celebrate the hard work of those who volunteered and/or contributed to the SCIP during the year. The Dwight Brydie Community Service Awards will be announced at our annual Community Appreciation Dinner, held later in September.

A committee convened by the SCIP Board of Directors will consider candidates for the following four awards:

  1. Youth of the Year Award (students in 6th-12th grade are eligible. What made your nomination stand out as a student?)
  2. Citizen’s Award (those who volunteer and are not affiliated with law enforcement, could be a teacher, parent, etc.)
  3. Law Enforcement Award (those who volunteer and are either sworn or non-sworn law enforcement personnel)
  4. Community Leadership Award (those who are business leaders, community leaders, politicians, CEO’S, etc., who provide a level of leadership that supports youth development in Sacramento County)

Do you know of someone in our community whom you feel should be considered for this distinct award?

You can nominate them by CLICKING HERE

(once at the Contact Us page, enter your name, email, and under message, simply enter the person’s name and a brief reason why we should consider your nomination for one of the awards above. Under subject, indicate the type of award nomination please. Please note that we may need to contact you for further information.)

Nominations will be accepted through July 8th, 2016, 5:00pm.
