CSHAA’S Community Mixer

November 5, 2019 / msaigeon / The Impact | Sheriff's Community Impact Program

As we wind-down the summer, there is a lot to look back on over the last few months! With the start of school came a renewed relationship with Encina Preparatory School in Arden Arcade. Since the beginning of this school year we have been bringing lunch time activities to the school in order to generate interest in our Youth Rising Together Leadership program. Our new Site Coordinator, Leon Willis, is helping to lead the charge at Encina.

On Saturday, September 28th, CSHAA hosted a community mixer at Swanston Community Center! It was a successful event with both youth and adults in attendance. We had breakout sessions led by Sacramento Area Congregational Together (Sac ACT) and Mutual Assistance Network. These sessions incorporated separate youth and adult listening circles in order to hear from the different demographics about the issues and challenges they are seeing in their community. We also had a cultural diversity and awareness training to help community members understand how we can all be more inclusive of our fellow neighbors.

Lastly, with bitter sweet news, we said good bye to our long time Program Coordinator, Gao Xiong. She has been extremely helpful with our youth programming and we wish her luck in her new endeavors. With that, we welcome new Program Coordinator, Austin Schlocker. Austin comes to us with a heart for community and an excitement to help CSHAA reach its goals in new and creative ways.
