A Reading Assistance Program for Sacramento County Youth
The Sheriff’s Community Impact Program (SCIP) has a program called Helpful Hounds — a super-cool reading program for students K-5th grades, that provides students with an opportunity to read while hanging out with a friendly furry friend.
Helpful Hounds utilizes handlers/trainers from Canine Companions for Independence, thanks to funding from Point West Rotary Club – Sacramento. Officers representing the Sacramento Coalition of Minority Probation Officers play an important part in this powerful program by helping the students select books while encouraging them to read in a safe environment.
For more information about this wonderful program, contact the SCIP office at (916) 333-6464 ext. 3106.
